Agioi Anargyroi Church
Welcome to Agioi Anargyroi Church in Paphos, one of the 79 monasteries on the island.
Built-in 1649, the church stands on the site of a prehistoric settlement.
Local legends say the monastery was founded by two brothers, Saints Cosmas & Damianos, who devoted their lives to caring for the sick and dying.
Notably, these charismatic & selfless monks were the only ones on the island who didn’t charge for their services – hence the monastery’s name, which means “without payment” in Greek.
You may have noticed the church’s striking contrast to the surrounding wasteland, but as a local, I’m excited to guide you through its wonders.
The modern exterior might seem out of place, but step inside, and you’ll find a brilliant blend of traditional icons and a modern living church.
I was speechless the first time I saw the enormous and stunning iconostasis. And to top it all off, admission is free!
So don’t miss the chance to experience this unique sight in Paphos!
